Applying for unemployment for self-employed and independent contractors

COVID-19 has created a crisis situation for many self-employed entrepreneurs.

Under the state unemployment office (EDD) there is the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance Program (PUA). In the state of California, if you qualify for PUA, and depending on the effective date of your PUA claim, the initial payments you will receive are as follows:

Phase 1
$167 per week for each week you were unemployed from February 2, 2020 to March 28, 2020 due to a COVID-19 related reason.

Phase 2
$167 plus $600 per week for each week you were unemployed from March 29, 2020 to July 25, 2020, due to a COVID-19 related reason.

Phase 3
$167 per week, for each week from July 26, 2020 to December 26, 2020, that you are unemployed due to a COVID-19 related reason, up to a total of 39 weeks (minus any weeks of regular UI and certain extended UI benefits that you have received).

Learn more about PUA unemployment during this webinar.

The 15-Minute PLan

Many people express 3 primary concerns as it relates to financial planning:

(1) They do not have enough time to do a financial plan.

(2) They don’t understand why they need a financial plan

(3) They don’t understand how a financial planner/advisor can help

The 15-minute plan will assist with laying the foundation and addressing all three of those concerns and more! 15 minutes is by no means enough time to do a comprehensive financial plan but it’s a start. Not only will this plan jump start your personal financial planning program, it will also serve as a good check up for those who have already done some planning.

Attendees will walk away from this session and will know specifically what areas they need to prioritize as it relates to their unique financial situation.
